Strength from the depths…

Telmex Arden International’s Turkish weekend ended on a brighter note in this morning’s GP2 Series sprint race at Istanbul Park.

From 14^th and 23^rd on the grid, Edoardo Mortara and Sergio Perez made solid progress and worked their way up the field to finish ninth and 16^th respectively – insufficient to earn either of them a point, but a positive note on which to finish a trying weekend. Arden is now focused on returning to its customary place at the front of the field when racing resumes at Silverstone on June 20/21.

Edoardo: “I didn’t make a brilliant start, but it was good enough. I didn’t make up any places of the line, but passed three cars under braking for Turn One. That was the highlight of my race! After that I struggled to keep my tyres in good shape, although I enjoyed a nice little fight with Alvaro Parente on the final lap. It’s always good to finish a race – something that can’t be taken for granted as a rookie in this series.

“During the next few races I need to concentrate on better qualifying performances, because overall this weekend has been yet another learning experience – but then I’ve never scored any particularly good results at Istanbul Park. Maybe the circuit doesn’t really suit my style. At Silverstone we need to be more competitive in general – and I’m sure we will be.”

Sergio: “I made a good start and gained a few positions without taking any risks – I wanted to make sure I stayed out of trouble after yesterday. The car was definitely faster this morning, but I was unable to show it because I was trapped behind Giedo van der Garde and there was no way through. I’m really looking forward to the next race, though, because I have won races at Silverstone in the past.”
