Home not so sweet for Arden…

Telmex Arden International’s weekend got off to an unfortunate start today at Silverstone, the Banbury-based team’s home track.

Drivers Sergio Perez and Edoardo Mortara were 16^th and 19^th during this morning’s free practice, when the accent was on establishing a good chassis set-up, but the qualifying session was fraught with problems. Edoardo will start 19^th after dense traffic prevented him setting a representative time, while Sergio will line up at the back of the grid because he was one of three drivers who failed to complete a full lap. His engine lost power as he left the pits and cut out soon afterwards. 

Edoardo: “Silverstone is a very difficult track. We improved the car a lot between practice and qualifying, but we had a bad session this afternoon. My first lap on new tyres was OK, but I came out late for my second run and just couldn’t get a clear lap because there was so much traffic. The set-up changes we’ve made seem to work OK and we normally perform more strongly in the race, so we will see where we are tomorrow. It will be tough starting from so far back, but that just reflects the kind of luck we’re having at the moment.”

Sergio: “Things went quite well during free practice – I was second fastest rookie in each sector – and I was expecting a decent result in qualifying. Unfortunately, though, we had an engine problem as I left the pits and the car just stopped. I’m hoping we will have a positive race tomorrow. I might be starting right at the back, but I will do my best – as always.”
