4th win for Orudzhev in Jerez

Egor Orudzhev closes in on points lead with dominant display

This weekend Formula V8 3.5 Championship headed to the beautifully sunny Circuito de Jerez, for the penultimate round of the year.

During Collective Test 1, the Arden duo showed great pace. At the end of the session, Egor Orudzhev secured top of the timing sheets with a 1:28.548, and not too far behind, despite recovering from his horrific crash in Monza, Aurelien Panis finished the session in 6th, with a 1:28.747.

Collective Test 2 was drawn to an early end due to a red flagged caused by a car stopped on track. Using the 50 minute session for race simulation, Panis did a 1:31.795s - placing him 11th, and Orudzhev with 1:32.475, placing him in 14th.

After qualifying, Orudzhev started Race 1 in 5th, and Panis in 9th. Getting off to an incredible start, Orudzhev moved up into 3rd by the end of lap 1, and Panis followed up into 7th. With another smooth overtake, Panis took 6th with 20 minutes remaining, shortly before the safety car was deployed to retrieve a car caused in contact between Deletraz and Dillmann - promoting Panis to 5th.

Orudzhev lined himself up for the restart, and with a mistake by Vaxivere which allowed Orudzhev to take 2nd before taking the chequered flag. Panis finished in 5th after an incredible drive, and still recovering from an operation following his crash in Monza.

Qualifying 2 on Sunday saw the session get red flagged, due to a car stopping on track. Once the cars got back on track, the final qualifying result for Race 2 saw Orudzhev starting in 5th, and Panis directly behind on the grid in 7th, the top 10 drivers all within a 1 sec of pole.

As the lights went out, Orudzhev had an immense start, and was 1st by Turn 1. After 2 laps, Panis unfortunately had to pull over to the grass verge after suffering a component failure in the cars pneumatic system, which controls the clutch gears and DRS, despite holding great pace.  With the team having a solid, pit stop and quickest of the weekend, Orudzhev held his 1st place position until the end of the race, claiming his 4th win of the season.

Arden Motorsport takes the lead in the Teams Championship going into the final race of the year, Barcelona.
