SMP driver Alexander Vartanyan will contest a second full season in Formula Renault
Eurocup after signing with Arden Motorsport.

In 2017 the 17-year-old Russian finished 13th in the category and achieved his first ever podium with the Arden in a one-off NEC race at Hockenheim.

Prior to 2017 he had finished third in SMP Formula 4 and second in Spanish F4 in 2016 during his first full year of car racing.

For 2018, Vartanyan will switch to English outfit Arden Motorsport, which had previously run SMP-backed driver Egor Orudzhev to 3rd in 2016 Formula V8 3.5 series.

Vartanyan joins Hockenheim team-mate Oscar Piastri with confirmed Arden deals for the coming season.

Ben Salter - Arden FR 2.0 Team Manager “It’s with great pleasure that we can confirm Alex joins the team for a full season in Formula Renault Eurocup this year.
Alex has raced with us once in the NEC championship already where he was extremely impressive, taking his first podium in the category.
We were pleased to work with him again during our winter test programme – we know that he has the potential to do great things on track, so we have no doubt that he will be competitive from the word go as he hits the track this year.”
Alexander Vartanyan “I am very glad that I will be performing in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 with Arden Motorsport. I
hope that this year's results will be much better than in the past, I believe that I conducted enough tests with Arden Motorsport to show a good result. I want to thank SMP Racing for the opportunity to show themselves”.

The first Renault Eurocup test gets underway at Hockenheim on the 14th and 15th March.
