The team headed to Barcelona for the final round of Formula V8 3.5 Championship 2016, with 7 drivers in contention for the Drivers Championship, including the Arden-duo Egor Orudzhev and Aurelien Panis.
Friday’s Collective Test’s saw the Arden duo finish CT1 in 6th for Orudzhev, with a gap of +0.294s, and Panis in 10th with a gap +0.625s. Both drivers used the CT2 session for race simulation, and at the end of the session Panis finished 6th, and Orudzhev in 15th.
Race One: Orudzhev claimed his 5th win of the season with an incredible start from 5th on the grid, which allowed him to take the lead by the first corner. Not far behind was Panis, who had strong pace moved up into 5th by the end of Lap 1. After a good battle between Panis and fellow countryman Vaxiviere, with a smooth overtake, the Frenchman took 4th place. Orudzhev took the chequered flag with an impressive 9 second lead, but despite his victory, he lost his chance to fight for the title, and closely behind. Panis crossed the line in 4th place.
Claiming 37 points in Race One, the team collected enough points to clinch the teams title - Arden Motorsport was crowned 2016 Formula V8 3.5 Team Champions.
Qualifying 2 on Sunday morning was an event filled session with full course yellows and red flags. Despite the chaos going on around them, Panis took the Q2 chequered flag in 9th, with a gap of +0.721, and Orudzhev directly behind in 10th, +0.746 off pole. Lining up for the final time on the grid, tensions were high and unfortunately Orudzhev stalled once the last car was in place.
An extra formation lap was declared, and Orudzhev was pushed into pit lane where he would start the race. As lights went out, and the final car passed, Orudzhev had a superb start, and had gained 4 positions by the end of Lap 2.
After a collision with Celius Jr, Panis was forced to pit early for a new front wing. Orudzhev also claimed another fastest pit stop time, showing fast pace throughout the race he was soon in the points, and taking the chequered flag in 7th. Panis crossed the line in 12th, after receiving a 20 sec penalty.
