Bart Horsten took a pair of podium finishes at Croft in the F4 British Championship, where opening lap decisive overtakes proved key in the results of both races. Alex Connor also claimed a pair of Rookie podium finishes across the weekend for Arden.

Arden Motorsport’s British F4 team headed to Croft for Round 4 of the 2019 F4 British Championship.

Qualifying saw the Arden trio of Bart Horsten, Tommy Foster and Alex Connor all qualify within 0.2s of each other, as they locked out positions 4th-6th on the grid for the first race of the weekend.

They would also start in these positions for the third and final race of the weekend as well.

Race 1 started with Bart making a great start to seize 3rd position into Turn 1, which then quickly became 2nd after Sebastian Alvarez was penalised for a false start infringement. Tommy and Alex therefore both gained a place and all three Arden drivers were in a big battle for 2nd position throughout the race.

The three drivers held position until late on in the race, when a lunge from Josh Skelton demoted Alex down a position, which also saw Alvarez sneak through to demote the youngster to 7th on the final lap.

Horsten held off his rivals to secure a strong 2nd position and another podium in his campaign. Tommy just missed the podium by one tenth of a second in 4th position, with Alex claiming 7th and 2nd Rookie at the finish, to complete a clean sweep of points scoring finishes.

Race 2 was due to take place later in the day, however awful track conditions due to intense rain saw the race cancelled after just one lap of action behind the Safety Car because of the torrential weather conditions.

The third and final race of the weekend took place on Sunday afternoon and it saw another great start by Bart – as he made a great overtake around the outside of Alvarez on the opening lap to seize 3rd position. Tommy and Alex maintained 5th and 6th at the start, aided by Alvarez running off and into the gravel trap on the following lap – bringing out the Safety Car.

Bart had to defend from enormous pressure from Joe Turney in the latter stages, just holding off his rival in a photo finish to claim his second podium of the weekend.

Tommy and Alex rounded out the Top 6 finishers with 5th and 6th respectively, with Alex once again taking 2nd in the Rookie Cup classifications.

Oulton Park will host the next round of the British F4 Championship for Rounds 13/14/15 on the 29th-30th June in just a fortnights time.
